Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work
The Qashqai's larger dimensions give it an SUV-like ambiance. Its ride on 19-inch alloy wheels in Ti and STL versions can also be a bit firm. The front tyres in the Qashqai may also lose traction on rough surfaces, and the CVT could occasionally display wrist-flexing torque steering.
This is generally caused by a dead coin battery which is easily replaced in just a few minutes. Make sure that the new battery is the same size, voltage and specifications.
Water Damage
Water damage is one of the most common causes for an Nissan keyfob to display the "key ID incorrect" message. The key fob comes with rubber seals which protect the chip inside. However, prolonged exposure to moisture could cause it not to function properly. This is typically the case when you drop your key fob in the ocean or a swimming water pool, but it could happen when it's wet from rain or soapy hands.
If your key fob was exposed to water for an extended period of time then you might need to clean it with isopropyl or electronic cleaner. It might also need to be taken to an expert for repair or replacement.
If your key fob does need to be replaced, the procedure is relatively simple. Make sure you have the proper multipack (CR2032, 3V). The front and rear cases using a flathead screwdriver. Remove the metal clips, remove the old battery and then replace it. Reassemble the fob and replace the mechanical key. Verify that it is working properly. If it doesn't it is necessary to take it to a local Nissan dealer or an expert locksmith to replace the chip on the key. The chip is not usually damaged by water, so it should not cost a lot.
Dead Coin Battery
Another common reason the reason your Nissan Qashqai key fob might not function is because the battery for the coin is dead. The batteries typically last for 3-5 years, but they are susceptible to becoming depleted over time, particularly if the fob is frequently dropped. You can replace the battery, but make sure it is the same voltage and same size as the first. If you replace the battery, it could cause the key to be assigned an incorrect key ID. This could prevent it from being connected to your vehicle.
The most effective method to replace the battery of a coin on a Nissan Qashqai key fob is by opening the fob with a small flat head screwdriver. The screwdriver should be inserted into a small notch on the bottom of the fob, and twist it gently to split the two halves of the key fob. Remove the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a brand new one, taking note of the location of the old one within the fob.
Before putting the new battery into place ensure that there isn't any dirt or water damage to the terminals. If there is clean the terminals with small amounts of isopropyl alcohol. You'll also need to make sure the pole cables are connected properly - they must be connected to the negative and positive poles of your battery, respectively.
Fault Diagnosis
If your Nissan Qashqai key fob stops working after exposure to clean rain or tap water it could be an indication of an internal chip problem. The battery replacement won't fix the issue, and you'll need to purchase a new key fob. If you dropped the key fob on the ground and it stopped functioning immediately it's most likely because it damaged the internal chip. You can usually get the key fob back to work once again if it is removed and clean the chip with paper towel and isopropyl alcohol and then put it back into.
A common error that you will see on your dashboard is "Key ID Not Correct." This means that the vehicle cannot recognize the key fob and not allow it to start the engine. This issue can be caused by several ways, such as water damage, malfunctions that are not detectable within the key fob circuitry or RFID interference.
If the battery that powers 12 volts in your key fob is dead or not providing enough electric power, it will stop working. This will affect your Nissan Qashqai's remote keyless system, central locking and the capability to start the engine with the key fob. Check the batteries inside the key fob in case you are not able to lock and unlock your door manually. You can also try re-inserting the battery to reset the transmitter.
Reprogramming
If the key fob is not been submerged in salt water the device should be able to come back to life after a quick wash with clean water. You can also clean the electronic chip with isopropyl or electronic cleaner. If none of these work then it might be time to replace the entire key fob with a brand new one.
If your Nissan Intelligent Key still does not function, there might be a problem connecting between it and the vehicle. Start by turning the ignition key without beginning the car. Continue this process until you see the warning lights flash twice. Then, turn the vehicle off and take away the keys.

Then, you need to open the fob compartment in your vehicle. It's us ually on the door jamb or the handle of the driver's door. Locate the small button labeled "program" and press it. After the program is complete, you should hear the sound of a chime.
It's time to test your Intelligent Key to the test. You must stand a certain distance away from the vehicle, then press all the buttons on it. If the lights flash and the horn beeps it means that the key has successfully linked to the Nissan. It is also possible to test the key in close proximity.
